Every September, we pause to celebrate the spirit of community, resilience, and fair play that defines our great nation. We are a people of grit and grace. When we stand together, supporting our local makers, growers, and neighbours, we build an economy as solid as the Canadian Shield.
This Labour Day weekend, let us lift a glass to homegrown excellence. Whether you are spending the long weekend at the cottage, hosting a backyard gathering with neighbours, or simply watching the sunset paint the sky in brilliant hues of gold, this drink is for you. It is a bold, unapologetic nod to Canadian ingenuity and the fierce pride we hold in our local workforce.
How to make it: Pour the whisky, maple liqueur, and wine reduction into a rocks glass over one large ice sphere. Stir well. It’s warm, velvety, and smells just like woodsmoke and old flannel.
Ingredients:
45 ml (1.5 oz) Canadian rye whisky (Crown Royal or Forty Creek are reliable friends).
20 ml (0.75 oz) Quebec maple liqueur (look for Sortilège).
15 ml (0.5 oz) Okanagan Valley red wine reduction (take a bold BC Merlot, simmer it down with a pinch of brown sugar until thick and rich).
